Dr. Kevin Sutherland, a professor in School of Education's Department of Counseling and Special Education, took part in a special edition of the public radio show, "With Good Reason," which aired over the weekend.
In the broadcast, themed "Monsters in the Classroom," Sutherland discussed how to better prepare teachers to address disruptive behavior in classroom before it starts, rather than afterwards.
Sutherland used examples from his Best in CLASS program, a joint initiative between VCU and the University of Florida designed to improve instructional strategies for young children who demonstrate behavior that may put them at risk for future social, emotional and behavioral disorders.
Other guests on the show included University of Maryland, Baltimore County president Freeman Hrabowski, University of Virginia professor Bob Pianta, and William & Mary's Anne Charity Hudley.
