Background

I currently am a first-year teacher at Highland Springs High School in Henrico, Va. I am teaching Environmental Science and Oceanography this year.

Why do you want to teach?

I have always enjoyed teaching others. I started out helping other students in my class, then eventually I started tutoring other students after school. Since entering the teaching program at VCU, I’ve had numerous inspiring experiences that have only fueled my desire to teach the next generation.

Please tell us about a memorable teaching experience and why it stands out in your mind.

Most of my most memorable experiences as a teacher are the students that come back to say thank you. I had a few come to me at the end of last year to thank me for working with them so that they could pass their SOLs. It is one of the most invigorating and reaffirming experiences as a teacher.

What has the Noyce program meant to you?

The Noyce program provides me with an opportunity to pursue a higher level of education while at the same time, fulfilling my dream of being in a school where I can make the greatest impact on the students and community.
