Center for Sport Leadership
The Center for Sport Leadership provides practical, hands-on learning experiences that prepare students for successful careers within the sport industry.
The center offers both a master's and a doctoral degree, as well as a dual-degree MBA/M.Ed. program in partnership with the VCU School of Business.
Coursework for these programs explore a variety of subjects, including foundations of coaching, sport marketing, sport psychology and event development.
These courses emphasize real-world experiences, putting students in scenarios they'll encounter in the industry and empowering them to make decisions. The SEED (Sports Entertainment and Event Development) class, for example, sees students plan and put on an actual sporting event for the Richmond community, while the European Model of Sport course takes students across the Atlantic to learn about sport culture in Europe firsthand.
Recent Center for Sport Leadership projects include a research partnership with the Richmond Times-Dispatch and Project PUSH, which aims to help South African soccer coaches use training as an opportunity to educate their players.
