Equity: The Podcast
This is a series on student-driven topics on issues of equity in education and a way for our students, faculty, and staff to address their ongoing problems of practice in the field. We will also have inspirational discussions with those leading the charge on issues of diversity and inclusion in Education.

Episode 7: Opportunity Is Calling - In this episode, Dr. Faith Wilkerson chats with Dr. Mignonne Guy, Associate Professor in the Department of African American Studies and Javonne Bowles, Senior Interdisciplinary Studies Senior at VCU. Both women are working on a curriculum which would include a 3-credit course which would provide all VCU students with a foundational understanding of racial literacy.

Episode 6: Everyone Can't Be Beyoncé - In this episode, Dr. Faith Wilkerson chats with Kendra Johnson, Residency Coordinator for RTR Petersburg and a Doctoral student within VCU's Curriculum, Culture, & Change program. She also leads one of our recently formed Affinity Groups which focuses on our Doctoral students of color.
Episode 5: You Are Worthy - In this episode, Dr. Faith Wilkerson chats with Gerron Scott, Academic Advisor within the Biology Department at Virginia Commonwealth University. Our conversation centered on him recently winning the Leadership in Inclusion, Diversity and Equity Award from Humanities & Sciences, and his techniques for teaching his students of color their worth.
Episode 4: Black Girl Genius - In this episode, Dr. Faith Wilkerson chats with Dr. Danielle Apugo, assistant professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning at Virginia Commonwealth University. Our conversation focuses on her desire for Black women and girls to not merely be defined for their ability to survive racism, abuse and violence. Dr. Apugo is also the co-author of the upcoming book "Strong Black Girls: Reclaiming Schools in Their Own Image," available for pre-order now via Amazon.
Episode 3: Don't Put Me In A Box - In this episode, Dr. Faith Wilkerson chats with Dr. Jonte Taylor, Associate Professor of Special Education at Penn State University and Dr. William Hunter, Associate Professor of Special Education at University of Memphis. Our conversation focuses on the overarching themes they have seen in the evolution of Special Education, how they ended up working in the field, and what they think should be done to increase the shortage of Black educators.
Episode 2: The Collective - In this episode, Dr. Faith Wilkerson chats with VCU students Erin Hanley and Tosha Yingling who are members of a group known as 'The Collective'. This is a group of graduate and Ph.D students at the University who support Black students and other marginalized groups in pursuit of opportunity.
