The School of Education graduation ceremony was held on May 12 in the Stuart C. Siegel Center. Faculty, staff, family and friends celebrated the accomplishments of 198 students who now head out in diverse communities across the country to serve as teachers, counselors, school administrators, higher education faculty and other professionals committed to high needs learning environments.
“We are extremely proud of our students. Thanks to all their hard work here at the VCU School of Education, they now head out into the world to make a real impact in the community, no matter which path they choose,” said Dr. Colleen Thoma, associate dean for academic affairs and graduate studies in the School of Education.
Dr. Yaoying Xu was presented with The Charles P. Ruch Award for Excellence in Teaching. This is her second time receiving the award, the first being in 2012 when she shared the award with Dr. William Muth. Dr. Xu, a professor in the Department of Counseling and Special Education, has distinguished herself as an outstanding teacher who is highly regarded by the faculty and students in the School of Education.
