For undergraduates, the VCU School of Education offers the extended teacher preparation program. Students enrolled in this 153-credit program pursue a Master of Teaching degree in addition to their bachelor’s, allowing them to receive both degrees at the end of their studies.
The extended teacher preparation program is offered for early childhood and elementary education (pre-kindergarten through six grade), and secondary education (six through 12th grade).
Students in the extended teacher preparation program typically receive their bachelor’s degree in the field which they are interested in teaching. Those interested in early childhood and elementary education, however, are required to enroll in the bachelor of interdisciplinary studies with liberal studies for early and elementary education major in the College of Humanities and Sciences.
For incoming freshman undergraduates, VCU uses the Common Application. Application information can be found at the VCU Undergraduate Admissions freshman application page. Likewise, transfer student applications can be found at the Undergraduate Admissions transfer application page.
