The 2020 VCU Summer Learning Academy, like the summer season, is open for business!

Beginning Monday, June 22, the Summer Learning Academy officially launched another season of summertime professional development. Important thinking and learning from valued colleagues and experts in the field has begun. Virtually, that is!

This year’s iteration of the Summer Learning Academy has a new look. You will likely notice the increase in session offerings but, importantly, you will see that, like you, we have adapted our learning space and instruction due to the challenges of COVID-19.

While the 2019 Summer Learning Academy offered seven rich sessions ranging in topics from Restorative Justice Education to Teaching English Language Learners, the 2020 learning academy has grown significantly. Twenty-six sessions are offered this summer. Added to last summer’s bevy of valuable learning experiences are engaging sessions that support self-care, focused curricular instruction, and technology development.

Due to COVID-19, all sessions take place Monday-Friday in an online format. Each session is uniquely designed by the facilitator(s) to balance synchronous and asynchronous instruction. You will have an opportunity to think collaboratively with colleagues in virtual learning spaces and work independently.

Registration for the sessions is open throughout the summer. We are excited about the offerings and invite you, after a well-deserved rest from a challenging spring, to join us for some summer learning.

The most popular sessions:

  • Elevating and Engaging Black Girls in Schools
  • Introduction to Restorative Justice Education
  • Mindfulness and Movement
  • Teaching English Language Learners
