The Metropolitan Educational Research Consortium (MERC), a center affiliated with the School of Education, has released its “Promise of Public Education” podcast series. The series is being released in connection with the same-named theme of the 18th Annual MERC Conference, to be held October 22.

Each episode of the series features a discussion with educational researchers and practitioners about a prominent facet of public education “in a new era.” The first episode, “The Promise of Public Education: Teaching in a New Era,” was released this past Friday, September 3. Additional episodes will be released every Friday until the date of the conference and feature topics such as teaching, student services, school leadership, high school, digital equity, special education and college.

Guests include representatives from the VCU SOE and metropolitan Richmond school divisions, including Chesterfield, Goochland, Hanover and Henrico counties, as well as Petersburg City and Richmond public schools. The podcast series is available on the MERC website, as well as SoundCloud, Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify, and Google Podcasts. Listeners can subscribe on any of these platforms and sign up for the MERC stakeholder email listserv to stay up to date on the latest episodes.
