The VCU School of Education welcomes Beth E. Bukoski, Ph.D., as assistant professor in the Department of Educational Leadership.

Bukoski joins SOE from The University of Texas at Austin, where she was an associate professor of practice and co-program coordinator of the Program in Higher Education Leadership in the College of Education’s Department of Educational Leadership and Policy. She earned her doctoral degree in educational administration from the College of Education at UT-Austin; her master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from the College of Education at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University; and her bachelor’s degree in English from Virginia Tech.

Bukoski was the inaugural recipient of the 2021 Dean’s Distinguished Career Faculty Award at UT-Austin’s College of Education. She also coordinated an inaugural LGBTQ+ focused symposium for UT-Austin’s College of Education as part of her Dean’s Leadership Fellows project in 2019.

Bukoski’s research interests include social justice, inclusion and diversity in higher education; intersectional identities using constructs of gender, sexuality and race; and feminist, critical and post-structural theories and analytic techniques.

Bukoski considers herself a servant-leader and tempered radical, dedicated to higher education but working to make it better for all its constituents – students, staff and faculty. She is involved in service at multiple levels, from programmatic and departmental service to professional organizations and journals. She brings a focus on social justice to all her work in service of supporting others and creating more inclusive and liberatory educational spaces.
