The VCU School of Education welcomes Lacey E. Seaton, Ed.D., as assistant professor in the Department of Educational Leadership.

Seaton joins SOE from North Carolina State University where she was the director and supervisor of graduate assistants in the Department of Educational Leadership, Policy, and Human Development. She earned her doctoral degree in education administration and supervision from N.C. State; her master’s degree in school administration in educational leadership from N.C. State; and her bachelor’s degree in adapted special education from the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

Seaton was awarded the UCEA David L. Clark National Graduate Student Research Seminar Fellowship in 2019, and the Wilcox-Hodnett Doctoral Fellowship in 2018.

Seaton’s research interests include the inclusion of students with disabilities in the total school environment, access for students who have been systematically oppressed, and disproportionality that plagues discipline policies. She has a book chapter underway for the Handbook of Classroom Management, which highlights racial inequities from ineffective classroom management and the role of the school leader in combating such disparities.

Prior to her roles in higher education, Seaton was a principal resident, assistant principal, and an exceptional children’s teacher in North Carolina public schools.
