Research Administrator Honored by Global Organization
Recently The Society of Research Administration International (SRAI) honored Jose G. Alcaine, Ph.D., director of research services in the Office of Research and Faculty Development, with two major awards. Alcaine received the Excellence Award, recognizing his contributions to the field of research administration within SRAI and beyond, as well as being named a “Distinguished Faculty.”
“Without question, it’s humbling that my peers have noticed the work that I’ve invested to help promote knowledge creation, from leading workshops and organizing conferences to networking and finding grant opportunities for our faculty members,” said Alcaine, also affiliate faculty in the Department of Foundations of Education at the VCU School of Education, and adjunct faculty at the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs
In his role, Alcaine collaborates with faculty members in identifying funding sources, preparing and submitting effective grant proposals, networking with other researchers, developing and organizing workshops and conferences, securing graduate student support, and more.
“Changing education for the better must build on solid research, and these two honors truly showcase Jose’s incredible passion and commitment to supporting our faculty at every stage of the process of generating new insights and knowledge,” said Kathleen M. Rudasill, Ph.D., interim dean of the School of Education.
The Excellence Award recognizes up to three SRAI members who excel at expanding the knowledge and tools of research administration with contributions within the society, their institutions and/or outside organizations. A committee of research administrators selects Distinguished Faculty, based on career history, expertise in research administration and teaching excellence, and in significant contributions made to advance the field.
Alcaine was formally recognized at SRA International’s Annual Meeting in Seattle. During the meeting, Alcaine will also co-present several sessions, covering topics including intercultural communication in research administration and development, award set-up and project implementation, and developing institutional strategies that work.
