What is VDOE T/TAC at VCU?
Training and Technical Assistance Center helps improve learning and positive school outcomes for students with disabilities
The Virginia Department of Education’s Training and Technical Assistance Center (T/TAC) of Virginia Commonwealth University is a project housed within the Partnership for People with Disabilities, a center affiliated with the VCU School of Education. T/TAC works closely with school personnel in Regions 1 and 8 in Virginia to improve learning and positive school outcomes for students with disabilities from birth to age 22, helping them to reach their potential and dreams.
Technical assistance at T/TAC is approached through the lens of implementation science in order to build sustaining systems around inclusive practices, positive behavior interventions and supports, assistive technology, and multi-tiered systems of support. In addition, T/TAC provides technical assistance related to more specialized instructions such as Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS), Strategic Instruction Model (SIM), and Multisensory Structured Literacy Initiative.
Lending libraries containing over 3,600 holdings are located at Virginia offices in Richmond and Blackstone. Inventories include books, assessment tools, instructional materials (mathematics, reading and disability-specific resources), and a robust assistive technology lab featuring a 3D printer.
