Our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging Commitment

The VCU School of Education (SOE) Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEIB) joint faculty, staff and student-led committee consists of representatives from various SOE departments and centers. We are committed to inclusion and equity through research activities and best practices. Continued exposure and access to opportunities to explore issues of social justice, inclusion, and equity are of utmost importance.

Our school-wide goal of a Whole School Transformation is central to our plan of action as we intentionally focus on influencing the curriculum, engaging in impactful dialogue and providing resources for our SOE stakeholders with a particular focus on creating equitable and inclusive learning environments for students and working environments for faculty and staff.

Our 2024-2025 Plan of Action objectives include the following:

  1. Create a space of belonging within the SOE community.

  2. Expand opportunities to dialogue about important issues within the SOE and VCU community.

  3. Focus efforts on bridging differences, acknowledging and affirming the lived experiences, values, and perspectives of intersecting identities across our school community.

  4. Mobilize efforts to consolidate and share resources to advance equitable practices.

Our plan of action includes programming and training opportunities for faculty, staff, students, and community members that respond specifically to the SOE Strategic Plan:

  • Theme 3: Collective Urban

  • Theme 4: Diversity Driving Excellence
