Alcaine Receives VCU Alumni 10 under 10 Recognition

VCU Alumni’s 10 Under 10 awards recognizes the noteworthy and distinctive achievements made by alumni who earned their first VCU degree within the past 10 years.

Jose Alcaine, Ph.D., director of research services in the VCU School of Education’s Office of Research and Faculty Development, was recognized as one of the 2025 VCU Alumni 10 Under 10 Award recipients at a ceremony in late October. VCU Alumni’s 10 Under 10 awards recognizes the noteworthy and distinctive achievements made by alumni who earned their first VCU degree (undergraduate, graduate or professional) within the past 10 years. 

Alcaine, who also holds positions as an affiliate assistant professor in the VCU School of Education’s Department of Foundations of Education and as an adjunct faculty member at the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs, brings extensive experience in higher education and research administration, including research development, proposal preparation and submission, and faculty and graduate student professional development programming. 

He believes that universities continue to be indispensable positive change agents in their communities and in society at large. His research interests include higher education policy, university administration, university leadership, college access and funding, foundations of higher education in the U.S. and how universities interact with surrounding communities as agents of economic, social and regional development. 

Alcaine holds a doctorate in Public Policy and Administration and a postgraduate certificate in geographic information systems, both from VCU’s L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs. He also holds the designation of Certified Research Administrator granted by the Research Administrators Certification Council, a national accrediting body in the field. He is active in a variety of national professional organizations and societies including the Society of Research Administrators International, the National Organization of Research Development Professionals, Pi Alpha Alpha National Honor Society for Public Affairs, the American Society for Public Administration and the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management.
