Dean Daire: Certifying teachers in African American history

Dr. Andrew Daire, dean of the VCU School of Education, is featured in an article in the Richmond Times-Dispatch on Virginia being set to consider requiring teachers to get a certificate in African American history.

The Commission on African American History Education, a group Gov. Ralph Northam assembled last year, is making the recommendation in an upcoming report. Dean Daire and Secretary of Education Atif Qarni are members of the commission.

Qarni said he is unaware of any other states that have such a requirement.
