Dr. Conley wins 2020 ACES Research Grant Award

Abigail H. Conley, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Counseling and Special Education, has been awarded a 2020 ACES Research Grant.

The Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES) is the premier organization dedicated to quality education and supervision of counselors in all work settings.

Dr. Conley’s research study is titled “Do We Practice What We Preach? Exploring Counselor Education Doctoral Students’ Experiences from Diverse Religious/Spiritual Backgrounds.” It was one of 48 proposals submitted for this year’s competition, with only 10 recipients being awarded grants.

Dr. Conley expressed thanks to the doctoral students working on the study with her: Mitchell Waters, who co-wrote the proposal, as well as Aliza Lambert, Waleed Sami and Mia Liadis.

The ACES Grant Award Committee will distribute a total of $15,000 to the winners, whose research will increase understanding of professional development in counselor education and supervision by specifically focusing on areas of teaching, supervision, professional identity, or leadership development.
