SOE wins three awards at 2019 ACES Conference

Honors go to Dean Daire, Dr. Hermann, Ph.D. in Counselor Education program

The VCU School of Education won three awards at the 2019 Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES) Conference held recently in Seattle. The awards are listed below in alphabetical order, along with the recipients. Congratulations to everyone!

The Locke-Paisley Outstanding Mentor Award: Dean Andrew P. Daire, Ph.D.
This award is named in honor of Don C. Locke and Pam Paisley to recognize their contributions to mentoring emerging leaders within ACES. It honors an individual who has been a significant mentor to graduate counseling students, emerging counseling educators, supervisors and counselors. The winner exemplifies caring for others; possesses and shares knowledge, skills and talents; facilitates and supports the realization of personal and career goals of those mentored; and is committed to the profession of counselor education and counseling. Dean Daire was presented with this award by the Southern Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (SACES).

The Professional Leadership Award: Mary A. Hermann, J.D., Ph.D., associate professor, Department of Counseling and Special Education
This award honors excellence in leadership. It recognizes scholarship, program development in university or counseling work settings, involvement in professional organizations, role modeling leadership, and influence within society concerning counselor education. Dr. Hermann was presented with this award by ACES.

The Robert Frank Outstanding Counselor Education Doctoral Program Award: Ph.D. in Education, Concentration in Counselor Education and Supervision
This award honors a counselor education program that exemplifies the importance of excellence through standards and innovation. This excellence is shown through faculty members’ commitment and contributions; program commitment to standards as well as improvement and development; faculty members’ mentoring a clear, strong counselor and counselor educator identity; the program’s influence and relationship to students, the university and the surrounding community; and unique and innovative ways to provide education and supervision of counselors and counselor educators. SOE's Ph.D. in Counselor Education program was presented with this award by SACES.
