The VCU School of Education's Ph.D. in Education, Concentration in Counselor Education and Supervision program, only in its sixth year of existence, is already making a name for itself. The program received the 2019 Outstanding Doctoral Counselor Education and Supervision Award from the Southern Association for Counselor Education and Supervision.

“We are very humbled to receive this award, as it recognizes the hard work our faculty, students and alumni are doing on a regular basis to impact the counseling field. We offer students a strong opportunity to collaborate with faculty in their research, teaching and supervision while also allowing each student to personalize their experience,” said Philip B. Gnilka, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Counseling and Special Education.

This award is given annually to a doctoral program in counselor education that demonstrate outstanding training in areas such as counseling, supervision, teaching, research and scholarship, and leadership and advocacy.
