Ashlee M. Lester, Ph.D., wrote a featured article in the Spring 2020 Newsletter for Educational Psychologists (NEP) on her experience of defending her dissertation virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic. Lester recently earned her Ph.D. in Education, Concentration in Educational Psychology from the VCU School of Education.

In the article, Lester says that the experience, though not all bad, was inherently different from a traditional defense. She also offers recommendations, based on her experience, for other doctoral candidates to consider before defending their dissertations.

The NEP is sponsored by Division 15 of the American Psychological Association. Division 15 is internationally recognized for its work distributing the science of educational psychology to a broad audience.
