All are welcome to our annual Dyslexia Symposium, hosted by the VCU School of Education’s Ruth Harris Professorship and the Virginia Department of Education Training and Technical Assistance Center (T/TAC) at VCU on Saturday, November 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The symposium is a unique opportunity for families, early career and veteran professionals, and students to come together and delve into the world of dyslexia and language disorders. Whether you attend in person or virtually, you can look forward to a day filled with valuable insights and learning.
At the VCU Dyslexia Symposium, we believe that knowledge should be accessible to all. That's why we're offering VCU students a chance to attend for FREE. Students from other colleges or universities in Virginia can also benefit from a significantly discounted registration fee-just $20 for in-person and $10 for virtual attendance.
The general public, including educators, advocates and families, are invited to register now. The in-person registration fee is $40 and includes the keynote speaker, lunch, choice of breakout sessions, (free) parking for the first 60 people registered, raffle ticket, vendor tables, and networking. This event provides four hours of professional development.
There is also a virtual registration fee of $20, which includes the keynote speaker and a live stream of two breakout sessions. The virtual session provides three hours of professional development.
Our keynote speaker, Winifred A. Winston, brings 15 years of expertise as a human resources and career management administrator in K-12 and higher education. Recognizing the lack of accurate information on dyslexia interventions for Black and underrepresented minorities, Winifred founded Dyslexia Advocation, a 501c3 charitable organization that aims to provide access to quality, affordable remediation for the parents of struggling readers and adults.
As the host of the influential Black and Dyslexic podcast with LeDerick Horne and the author of the engaging Dyslexia Puzzle Word Search Book, Winifred is committed to educating and empowering adults and parents of children with dyslexia. Her mission extends beyond advocacy. Through her multifaceted efforts, she stands as a beacon of knowledge and support for those navigating the complexities of dyslexia, fostering a community empowered by education and resilience.
Winifred holds degrees from Towson University and the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. She lives with her family in Baltimore City, Maryland. Learn more about Winifred on LinkedIn, https://www.linkedin.com/in/winifredwinston-dei-neurodiversity/ or X @winifredwinston.
