VCU “Doing” REAL Session encourages social contribution

VCU School of Education faculty and staff joined more than 40 presenters at the VCU “Doing” REAL Poster Session & Showcase recently at the Grace and Broad Residence 2. The 90-minute session offered faculty, staff and students the opportunity to learn more about hands-on learning experiences available to them at the university.

Dr. Kim McKnight, RTR-Petersburg director, presented on the RTR-Petersburg Teacher Residency; Lisa Cipolletti, assistant professor, presented on the Pen Pal Partnership Project; and Misti Wajciechowski, assistant professor, program coordinator and course instructor, presented on STEM and Physical Education.

The event supported VCU REAL’s mission of guaranteeing every student the opportunity to engage in socially conscious “hands-on” research, scholarship, or creative work. Students, in particular, who were at the session were encouraged to pursue opportunities outside of their major as a way to build new skills and experiences.
