The VCU School of Education's Dr. Genevieve Siegel-Hawley, associate professor in the Department of Educational Leadership, is featured in an article in the June 23, 2020 issue of the Chesterfield Observer on the Chesterfield School Board's proposal to shift a high-end residential subdivision from the attendance zone of a predominantly Black school to one that is predominantly white.

The article – "A redistricting proposal in Matoaca offers a glimpse into a systemic problem – racially isolated schools" – features quotes from Dr. Siegel-Hawley and a link to a 2019 report titled “Creating More Integrated Schools in a Segregated System: A Window of Opportunity,” by Dr. Siegel-Hawley and Dr. Kimberly Bridges, assistant professor in the school's Department of Educational Leadership.
