The VCU School of Education returned to United International College in Zhuhai, China, recently to further explore opportunities for collaboration.

Guests from SOE included Dr. Gail Hackett, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs; SOE Dean Andrew Daire; Dr. Yaoying Xu, professor in the Department of Counseling and Special Education and director of the Asian American Educational Studies Center; and Dr. Jenna Lenhardt, recruitment specialist in the Office of Strategic Communications and Enrollment Management.

Welcoming them from the UIC delegation were Vice President (Academic Affairs) Professor Chen Zhi; Associate Vice President Professor George Wei; Dean of Division of Business and Management (DBM) Professor Stella Cho; Dean of Division of Science and Technology (DST) Professor Huang Huaxiong; Associate Dean of Division of Humanities and Social Sciences (DHSS) Professor Simon Zhao; Associate Dean of Division of Humanities and Social Sciences (DHSS) Dr. Charles Lowe; Director of English Language Centre (ELC) Dr. Viola Wong, Director of the International Development Office (IDO) Dr. Katharina Yu; Associate Director of IDO and Acting Director of CDO Ms. Mei Li. Both sides expressed strong interests in establishing a full range of collaboration.

Before meeting senior management members at the Council Chamber, representatives from VCU had already had a fruitful discussion with Dr. Lowe and Dr. Wong about a possible internship program at UIC. Both sides agreed that it would be a win-win situation where, for example, VCU students interested in getting international experience could join UIC as interns to gain training in teaching at UIC's English Language Centre.
