Fall 2022

  • Decolonizing the Curriculum Workshop - Friday, November 11 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM
    • On Friday, November 11 the DEI Committee will host the first workshop for the Decolonizing the Curriculum Workshop will be held from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM in Harris Hall 2129 and on Zoom.
      If you will be attending, please bring a syllabus that you will be teaching in the Spring 2023 semester. Each workshop will be focused on that one syllabus so that we are able to make measurable progress over the rest of the academic year. 
  • Igniting Progress 2022: Identities, Intersectionality and Inclusion - Tuesday, November 15 4:00 - 5:30 PM
    • Join the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee for Igniting Progress 2022 where we invite speakers from educational research, policy, and practice to offer 5-7 minute talks on how our theme "Identities, Intersectionality, and Inclusion" resonates with their work. This session will be held via Zoom. Participants will have an opportunity to collaborate and develop action steps for further supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion in educational spaces. Speakers include:

      Charles Snellings - Critical Response Teacher, Henrico County Public Schools
      Nicole Jones - School Board Member (9th District), Richmond Public Schools
      Erin Crane - Elementary School Counselor, Hanover County Public Schools
      Carol Schall, PhD - Director of ACE Technical Assistance and Co-Investigator, Research and Project Director of Deployed 2 Work

  • Decolonizing the Curriculum Workshop Three
    • On Friday, February 10 the DEI Committee will host the first workshop for the Decolonizing the Curriculum Workshop will be held from 11:00 am  - 1:30 am in Harris Hall 4153. A Zoom link will be shared with those who indicate they will join virtually.
  • Unapologetically You: Reimagining Research through the Lens of Personal Experiences
    • We will highlight the intellectual contributions of Dr. John Fife, associate research professor of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), through a research teach-in on Thursday, February 23, at 11:00 a.m. in Oliver Hall 3108. Dr. Fife will present, “Unapologetically You: Reimagining Research through the Lens of Personal Experiences”. This teach-in will be delivered in a hybrid format and all are welcome to attend. Please let us know if you will join us.
  • Dialogue with a Purpose
    • Thursday, February 23 12:30-1:30 pm via Zoom
  • DEI Community Conversations: An Evening with Tawara Goode
    • The VCU SOE Committee for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is pleased to invite you to DEI Community Conversations: An Evening with Tawara Goode on Thursday, March 16th from 4:00-5:30 at Armstrong High School. Professor Goode is the Director of the National Center for Cultural Competence and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, D.C. She has degrees in early childhood education, education, and human development. The event will feature a talk by Professor Goode as well as an opportunity for Q&A with the audience. Tickets are free but an RSVP is required to attend.
