School of Education Resources

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee: Our faculty, staff, and student committee serves to raise awareness and facilitate discussion within the school and wider community surrounding issues of diversity, equity and inclusion.

Holmes Scholars Program: Supports students from historically underrepresented groups who are pursuing careers in education at the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) member institutions; Provides mentorship, peer support and professional development opportunities for doctoral and master's students.

Office of Strategic Engagement's Professional Learning Opportunities: Programs such as the Anti-Racist Lecture Series and the Summer Learning Academy focus on creating equity in schools and communities through culturally responsive best practices explicitly focused on educator and community implicit biases.

Office of Strategic Engagement's Signature Programs: Programs such as the Innovative Teacher Pipeline, Substitute Teaching: The VCU WayAlumni Induction Support and the Career Switcher Program help the School of Education fulfill its commitment to meet the needs of our local community and expand the pipeline of individuals entering the teaching profession, especially in our high-needs and urban schools.

Minority Educator Recruitment, Retention and Equity Center (MERREC): Seeks to assist educators of color with program completion at VCU, obtaining positions post-graduation, and becoming effective social justice scholars able to navigate the challenges faced by minority educators in the profession.

Faculty Resources about Racism: Resources about antiracist pedagogy, biases, critical race theory and research, critical race theory+, history, racial identity and competence, reading lists, and teaching children about racism. Link to Google drive folder.

Office of Multicultural Student Affairs: Provides diversity, inclusion, and social justice education for VCU and the surrounding area; Offers opportunities for community building and identity affirmation for underrepresented students and student organizations.

Equity and Access Services: Leads, coordinates, and supports civil rights compliance, including Title IX, for VCU. Seeks to promote an accessible learning and working environment for all at VCU.

Student Accessibility and Educational Opportunity Office: Promotes student development and creates a campus culture of inclusion and equal access for all students.

Division of Inclusive Excellence: Responsible for actualizing diversity initiatives that foster a welcoming community and support all individuals regardless of race, color, national origin, age, gender, religion, sexual orientation, political affiliation, veterans’ status and disability.
